In the last few years, the popularity around the microdosing of psychedelics has skyrocketed as never before. Here at Avalon Magic Plants we have already talked about taking these small amounts of psychedelics to realise a wide range of health benefits. But there’s no doubt the most talked about substances to microdose are LSD, Magic Mushrooms and Magic Truffles. Now, more and more people are wondering about microdosing other psychedelic substances, including ayahuasca - our topic of the day.

What about ayahuasca?

The powerful psychedelic brew ayahuasca has been used for hundreds of years by indigenous tribes of the Amazon for spiritual enrichment, personal growth and dealing with traumatic experiences. The brew takes its users on a deep inner journey of self-investigation and gives you opportunities to confront your ego and let go of it - an experience also called ‘ego-death’. The demand for this mystical drink is growing in an enormous rate in the Western World. For instance, you can now visit various locations all around Europe for an ayahuasca ceremony, which were usually only held in locations like Peru or other areas in the Amazonian region.

Ayahuasca is said by many to be a promising tool for disorders such as addiction, mental illness, anxiety and symptoms of depression - although the medical and scientific world still need to prove these claims. The psychedelic drink is considered the most intense and extreme hallucinogen in the world and normally consists of two ingredients: a DMT-containing plant such as Psychotria viridis (Chacruna) or Diplopterys cabrerana (Chaliponga), and the MAO-inhibiting herb Banisteriopsis caapi - also simply called Ayahuasca.

The benefits of microdosing

Now let’s talk about microdosing. For people who do not know what this phenomenon entails, there is a lot of information to be found on the web and in other blogs on Avalon Magic Plants. In short: when microdosing a psychedelic such as magic truffles, a very small amount of truffles is taken every few days. These doses are big enough to induce certain health benefits, but small enough so you won’t have an actual trip. But as the microdosing of magic mushrooms, truffles and LSD becomes more and more popular worldwide, you might wonder whether microdosing this powerful ayahuasca can have positive effects on our mental and physical health.

The answer to the question of whether you should microdose ayahuasca is short: we don't know yet.

Scientists have only just begun to investigate activities such as microdosing with magic mushrooms and LSD, so chances are that it will be a while before we know whether ayahuasca is an appropriate psychedelic to divide into smaller portions for a positive effect. However, with recent openings of several psychedelic centers around the world, such as one in London and The United States, it looks like we might get an answer soon.

Is that it?

Ofcourse that's not the answer we'll leave you with. Preliminary findings from Dr. Gerald Thomas, who frequently works with ayahuasca in Canada, show that there are positive changes in the microdosing of ayahuasca in individuals who attempt to do so. These changes can be seen, for example, in areas such as quality of life, creativity and feelings of hope. In addition, his study also frequently reports a decrease in the use of tobacco, alcohol and cocaine. So while we're not quite sure if ayahuasca microdosing actually works, user reports look positive for now.

The most important question, however, remains whether microdosing is really the tool you need for your problems. It is very important to find out what your true intentions are and if won’t be more useful to look at underlying problems, such as stress. There are numerous options you might want to consider before turning to ayahuasca microdosing, such as Psychotherapy, alpha-stim, breathwork, meditation, yoga and several others. Visiting a health professional is always our number one advice, in these situations.
