The king of all magic mushrooms…

Regular visitors of Avalon Magic Plants know we have quite a few different types of magic mushrooms and truffles for you to grow. But did you know there are so many more types of magic mushrooms growing around the world? At the moment there are already more than 180 different types of fungi known that contain the so-called tryptamine alkaloids psilocybin or psilocin - the substances that could deliver you the most amazing psychedelic trip you will ever feel. These include Psilocybe (no less than 117 species), Gymnopilus (13 species), Copelandia (12 species) and a handful of others.

As you can see, the Psilocybe species is by far the most common. In particular, it grows in the moist subtropical forests of Mexico and New Guinea. In the former we find no fewer than 44 different species of this family of psychedelic mushrooms - 39% of all Psilocybe species in the world. So forget about calling Mexico the land of the taco’s, we hereby dub it the land of the Magic Mushrooms! If you have ever doubted visiting the country, perhaps now you have a good reason to.

Seeing the Psilocybe mushrooms are so widely known and grown, it will probably not surprise you that most mushroom grow kits we sell here on Avalon Magic Plants are psilocybe grow kits. Which, by the way, is certainly not a bad choice: the different species within this family of fungi contain high amounts of psilocybin and they are also quite easy to grow. But if you have already tried several of these sets and you need something stronger, more powerful and more special, then there is no doubt you will one day end up at the Copelandia Cyanescens. This particular mushroom is considered to be one of the strongest magic mushrooms in the world.

The powerful Copelandia Hawaiian

Already curious about what’s so special about this Copelandia mushy? Well, first of all, we want to eliminate all confusion regarding the name of this species, since you can come across the Copelandia Cyanescens under a number of different names. For instance, the species is also classified as Panaeolus Cyanescens, whereas the Psilocybe Cyanescens is a completely different mushroom. In many studies, the species are abbreviated with P. cyanescens, which, as you can expect, can cause quite a bit of confusion. And then finally the Copelandia Cyanescens is also known as 'Copelandia Hawaiian', the name you probably recognize as the one we use here on Avalon.

So what ‘s up with that name? There’s a good reason for it! The Copelandia was probably introduced to the Hawaiian Islands in the early 1800s, although it appears to be originally from Asia. Eventually a couple of farmers were responsible for the migration of the mushrooms from the Philippines to the sunny islands. And because the mushroom became so popular there, it eventually got the nickname Copelandia Hawaiian. Before that happened, however, the species was first identified in Sri Lanka in 1871 as Agaricus Cyanescens and then later as Copelandia Papilionacea lin the Philippines. But for the sake of not making your head hurt just because of the name, we will simply call it Copelandia from here on.

Why is Copelandia so special?

Like we told you before, if a spiritual and extremely visual psychedelic trip is what you are looking for, you have come to the right place. This special magic mushroom contains on average a considerably higher dose of psilocybin and psilocin than, for example, the Psilocybe Cubensis mushrooms. User reports indicate that they are experienced up to 5 times stronger, and scientific studies confirm these high amounts of the psychedelic stuff inside them. Sounds great, doesn’t it?!

If you consider yourself a true psychonaut, we probably don't need to teach about the effects of Copelandia Cyanescens, or magic mushrooms in general (apart from the fact that it is simply a very, very strong mushroom). A psilocybin trip changes your sense of space and time, provides an extreme visual spectacle and is sometimes also capable in making people generally feel better - even up to months after taking the mushrooms. So when you take in consideration that a Copelandia trip is even more colorful and special than a ‘regular one’, you probably have heard enough to be convinced!

What about dosage?

For a normal dose you use about 5 to 10 grams of fresh Copelandia mushrooms, or if you choose dried mushrooms about 1 to 2 grams. However, there is no perfect dose for everyone, and the way you respond to psilocybin can vary greatly from person to person. For example, two grams of dried mushrooms are already experienced as very intense by some mushroom enthusiasts, while others would like to add a little extra.
